HAPPY EARLY VALENTINE'S DAY! I hope you all feel loved and special and if you're single, do something for yourself to feel loved and special. I'm off tomorrow so thought I'd get this in now. I'd also like to talk about love in the long term. I've decided to Make Marriage Great Again by sharing the REAL stories of what long term marriage is. Chuck and I are going on 17 years and our relationship is much different than when we got started but still the foundation of my entire life. Our culture spends a lot of time focused on marriages gone wrong because marriages gone right are boring to the outside world. We've got to make that cool again by sharing the ups of why having THAT PERSON in your life is worth fighting for and working on every day. So today I want to know from long term couples how you show each other you love each other without huge bouquets of flowers (or maybe with if that's your thing) because it's the little things every day that make a marriage work.
ROB WILLIAMS IS MY OWN PERSONAL VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE People send me emails quite often about themselves or other veterans they know who are having one struggle or another. When I get them the FIRST thing I do is reach out to my friend Rob, who many of you remember from his stints on Of the Day. He's a veteran himself, and he seems to know about a non-profit for EVERY situation and every issue. He's on today at 2:30 to talk about some of the non-profits doing great work that can help a veteran in need or give you a great cause to donate to. I will also beat him again in Of the Day, just for old time's sake.
COLORADO DEMS WANT TO VOTE FOR TRUMP That's the only thing I can take away from their REFUSAL to remove Colorado from this dumbass National Vote Compact. If this compact between states was in effect this past year, every single one of Colorado's electoral college votes would have gone to Donald Trump because he won the Popular Vote. Republicans filed a bill to repeal our agreement and it got killed in committee. It will remain in place until an even more objectionable Republican is elected or Republicans win some seats in the state. You can read more here, but I'm going to keep saying Colorado Democrats voted to vote for Trump because it's true.
THANK GOODNESS A HORRIBLE THING HAPPENED TO A LEGISLATOR? Do not get me wrong, I do NOT wish a sexual assault on ANYONE. But if Rep. Jenny Wilford had not been the victim of a sexual assault herself, the CBI would not have been able to keep extra money to get a massive backlog under control, there would be no increased accountability for the CBI and hundreds, if not thousands of sexual assault victims would not have an advocate pushing their cases along. I want to commend Jenny Wilford for putting her personal trauma into the record to make all these things happen, I just wish she didn't have to be attacked herself for the Legislature to do the right thing for ALL victims. This is so shameful and I'm happy something good will come out of her horrible experience. It should not have taken her suffering to make that happen. I hope these actions bring her and other victims the justice they seek.
DO WE REALLY NEED TO BE SPENDING FEDERAL MONEY ON THESE THINGS? The Denver Gazette did a story here on what federal monies aren't flowing to Colorado under the current spending freeze. Look at the list here. I'd love to know what you think, because my first thought was I would scrap 90% of them immediately before taking the time to decide what to do with the remaining 10%. This sort of spending when we've got massive deficits is indefensible, but our Democratic Senators are doing just that. This is an example of people inside the Beltway living a much different experience than people living outside the Beltway.
STOP DEADNAMING THE GULF OF AMERICA! We all know Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America but the AP has decided to not go with that new name. Because of that, Trump barred an AP reporter from a White House event, causing much complaining from the AP. To their credit, the AP explains here why they are sticking with Gulf of Mexico and I think they have a very fair point. I won't lie, I will probably call it the Gulf of Mexico til I die because I've been calling it that (and fishing on it) for my entire life. Just like it will always be simply Mile High Stadium to so many.
A DEVASTATING BIT OF COLLATERAL DAMAGE Everyone in the Army should hang their heads in shame about what has happened to Jose Barco. He was brought here illegally as a child, only to join the military as a late teen while being told it was his path to citizenship. He got out of the Army after combat tours and made a stupid mistake for which he went to prison. Meanwhile, the Army didn't do SH*T for him to get him his citizenship THEY PROMISED HIM so when he finished serving his time he's now being deported a country he doesn't even remember. This story is horrible and Governor Polis needs to step in to pardon him to give him a second chance. I am afraid that Polis would rather sacrifice him so he can make a point about Trump's immigration strategy though. I wish I thought otherwise.

A SUPER SAD STORY ABOUT WHY YOU NEED YOUR AFFAIRS IN ORDER And this has a decidedly Gen X bent because it involves former MTV star Matt Pinfield. The host of the iconic 120 Minutes and so much other stuff on MTV has had a stroke, and now his daughter and family are fighting over who gets to make decisions on his behalf. HAVE A PLAN, PEOPLE. Talk about the stuff you don't want to talk about. Let your kids know your wishes. Sort it out on paper. Do it, and save yourself and your family a world of heartache.
CAN WE LEAVE LAUREN BOEBERT'S PERSONAL LIFE ALONE? I get it, it's fun to pick on Lauren Boebert. She's made some really dumb and public choices when it comes to her personal life, but who among us hasn't? The difference is we're not members of Congress. The NYPost and Westword decided to share the scintillating news that she and Kid Rock shared a cab at the Inauguration. GASP. THE HORROR. Lauren Boebert is still a young and attractive woman, and I don't see any stories about MEN who shared cabs with anyone. Stop it. Let her have a life that is none of our business if she's keeping it to herself. Let her.
