‘SNL’ Star Kenan Thompson Moonlights Voicing NYC Subway Announcements

Saturday Night Live's longest running cast member, Kenan Thompson, is moonlighting.

His voice will be heard on PA systems across more than 400 subway stations across New York City this week, the Metropolitan Transit Authority announced today. Thompson recorded three messages addressing some ever-present issues in the New York City subway system: fare evasion, safety, and subway surfing.

“New Yorkers, it’s Kenan Thompson here. When I hear you all talking about surfing, it better be about the Rockaways,” goes one message. “That means you in the black shirt.” Of course, Thompson didn’t just lend his voice to the subway announcements for the benefit of the New York City Transit system. Each PSA ends with a plug, too.

“And while I have you,” Thompson adds in one, “tune into SNL50: The Anniversary Special, this Sunday on NBC and Peacock.

SNL’s subway promotion is supplemented by physical and digital ads for SNL50 have taken over the 47th–50th Streets–Rockefeller Center subway station — the go-to station for those passing by two epicenters of the big SNL50 celebration: NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza headquarters and Radio City Music Hall.
