Man Allegedly Cuts Rooftop Holes To Steal Cigarettes And Lottery Tickets

Miami, FL - A Miami resident has been apprehended following a series of burglaries involving rooftop entries into local businesses, where he allegedly stole cigarettes and lottery scratch-off tickets.

According to authorities, 54-year-old Daniel Perez was taken into custody on Monday and faces charges including burglary of an occupied structure, grand theft, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief.

As per Miami-Dade jail records, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Miami Police Department, Perez is suspected of committing multiple burglaries since January.

In each incident, he allegedly gained access by cutting holes in the roofs of various establishments, subsequently stealing cigarette products and lottery scratch-off tickets.

Authorities claim that after obtaining the tickets, Perez attempted to cash them at different locations.

Investigators utilized surveillance footage to identify Perez as a suspect.

He was apprehended in the vicinity of Northwest 15th Avenue and 33rd Street.

During the arrest, officers reportedly discovered stolen cigarettes and a substantial amount of cash, items that matched reports from the burglarized businesses.

Perez was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and appeared before a judge on Wednesday.

The court appointed him a public defender and ordered that he be held without bond.

Notably, at the time of his arrest, Perez was out on felony bond for a separate burglary case.

The police department noted the arrest underscores the effective collaboration between the Criminal Investigations Division and patrol officers, whose dedication and persistence were instrumental in bringing the suspect to justice.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Miami Police Department.
