Over 200,000 people in Denmark have signed a joke petition saying Denmark should buy California. Yes, things have gotten exactly this weird in 2025. The petition teases the idea of bringing Danish culture to California, including turning Disneyland into "Hans Christian Andersenland" and filling Hollywood with cozy Danish vibes called “hygge.”
Meanwhile, Greenland’s leaders and Denmark’s Prime Minister have firmly said no to selling Greenland to the US, which is of course where the idea came from. One interesting part of the idea, if it were to happen, the parts of Disneyland devoted to “The Little Mermaid” and “Frozen” wouldn’t change much, since Andersen wrote the original stories Disney adapted.
