The newest name to join this list...Quinta Brunson is a Golden Globe winning West Philadelphia native who is the creator, executive producer, writer and star of the new ABC comedy Abbott Elementary...based on a school here in Philadelphia...which has just been renewed for its 4th season on ABC. She is a graduate of Charter High School for Architecture and Design, and is slated to receive the prestigious Lew Klein award from Temple University on May 7th of this year. Brunson has won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, and Abbott Elementary won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy. Brunson herself won the 2024 Emmy for best comedic actress in a series…the first African American actress to win the award since Isabel Sanford of the Jeffersons in 1981.
