A 16-year-old student faces charges after East Baton Rouge Parish deputies found a loaded gun in his book bag.
Deputies with the School Drug Task Force found the gun before 8 a.m. Monday during a random search at Tara High School.
The student claimed he didn't know the gun was in his bag, but he'd reportedly abandoned it outside the school to avoid security measures.
He's charged with illegal carrying of a firearm, carrying a firearm on school property, and carrying it in a firearm-free zone.
Deputies say he didn't threaten anybody.
