More troops are heading to the southern border.

The Pentagon announced on Friday that an additional 1,500 active-duty troops are being deployed to enhance border security. The deployment brings the total number of active-duty troops at the border to about 3,600.

An order for a logistics brigade from the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Liberty in North Carolina to be sent down south has been approved.

The first group of 1,600 active-duty troops have already been deployed to the border. Another 500 soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division are expected to move soon.

The new soldiers are expected to be placing more physical barriers at the border and assisting the U.S. Border Patrol.
