Why Is Eric Adams One Of The Few Blue-State Leaders Cooperating With ICE?

Several high-profile elected officials in blue cities and states have been doing their best to hinder ICE operations designed at capturing and deporting illegal migrants to the United States who have criminal records. The effort to harbor these migrants has been met with stern warnings from border czar Tom Homan, who is constantly reminding mayors and governors that their actions are breaking the federal laws of the United States. New York Mayor Eric Adams is one of the few elected Democrat officials who has shown a willingness to assist the federal government, as resistance could mean the loss of federal funding. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino appeared in 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to talk about why Adams is one of the few Democrats in Homan’s corner.

“Adams, as you know, was at the prayer breakfast [Thursday] praying for a pardon,” Astorino told host Larry Mendte. “I think he might be, you know- he’s straddling things right now. First of all, if I’m Eric Adams right now, looking at my poll numbers and looking at my position legally, I go all-in to saying, ‘You know what, let’s clean this place up.’ That’s the only way, because even in the poll that came out this week, over 50% of primary Democrats in New York City feel this state’s going in the wrong direction and this city’s going in the wrong direction. So, you know what? What’s happening right now ain’t working, so go out, all-out in another direction, and that would be working with ICE, cleaning up this city, and that’s that.”

Adams, however, seems willing to play ball with federal officials, a fact that Astorino feels is being lost in the shuffle. “I do think we’re going to have a big clash in this country real soon. The supremacy clause of the United States Constitution is gonna come into play here because federal law trumps local law. You cannot harbor these criminals knowingly, and that’s what they’re doing with these policies- and they’re also giving money and benefits to illegal aliens which they are by law not permitted to receive. So, it’s going to come to a head, it really is, and not a moment too soon.”
