HeartSafe Holland registering A.E.D. locations into Ottawa Co. 911 database

HOLLAND, Mich. -- HeartSafe Holland is working with local agencies that have Automatic External Defibrillators to record their locations into the Ottawa County’s 911 center's computer database.

That will allow 911 dispatchers to direct callers to an AED as quickly as possible, even before ab emergency medical services team arrives on the scene. HeartSafe Holland is an initiative to improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

Here is more information from a HeartSafe Holland news release:

This registration will be done through a software and app called PulsePoint. PulsePoint’s software was purchased by HeartSafe Holland and integrated into Ottawa County 911’s computer aided dispatch (cad) system in early 2024. The PulsePoint app is free to anyone and allows the user to upload an AED location so that it can be seen by Ottawa County’s 911 dispatchers.

If you individually or your business or organization have AEDs at your location, we ask that you complete the AED registration. You can do that by downloading the PulsePoint AED application on your computer at https://www.pulsepoint.org/download or your phone through your app store (PulsePoint AED) - and enter information directly into the app. Alternatively, contact HeartSafe Holland at 616-834-0602 and we will work with you to collect the information. Submitting this information will be reviewed by the program administrators for verification and entry into the database. No specific business or personal information will be shared.

*** HeartSafe Holland, a team of community representatives from Holland Fire Department, Holland Hospital, AMR, Ottawa County Department of Public Health, Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority, Holland Rotary Charities, Evergreen Commons, City of Holland, and local volunteers and cardiac arrest survivors has been working for over 2 years to establish the City of Holland as a HeartSafe Community as part of an initiative to improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest. This initiative focused on increasing the number of citizens in the community trained in hands-only CPR, notification of emergency services (calling 911) and use of automated external defibrillators (AED). The City of Holland received that designation in March 2024, and HeartSafe Holland was awarded the 2024 City of Holland Human Relations Commission's annual Social Justice Award in Health Services. The initiative will be expanding to other areas of Ottawa County soon.
