The Health Department is urging Brewster residents and visitors to be aware of unusual or suspect illnesses or death in the area's wild bird populations.
Officials say if five or more dead birds are found in a single location the Brewster Department of Natural Resources should be contacted for further investigation and reporting to MassWildlife.
The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife says evidence suggests that Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza which rarely infects humans, is now widespread in geese and other wild birds in Massachusetts.
