Grand Haven Police arrest Ravenna High School special ed teacher

RAVENNA, Mich. -- The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety and the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office are investigating a Ravenna High School special education teacher in connection with child pornography.

Police said the teacher was arrested for possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime. They're also looking into a purported inappropriate relationship the teacher had with a student. Grand Haven DPS said in a news release late Friday afternoon that the teacher faces two counts for each charged and bond was set at $500,000.

DPS said the arraignment date for the teacher has been postponed until February 13.

Schools Superintendent Greg Helmer notified parents in a letter about the situation, and says the district has launched an internal investigation. The teacher was arrested and taken to the Ottawa County Fillmore Complex to be booked into jail.

"The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information related to this incident or others, please contact Grand Haven Public Safety at (616) 842-2460 or the non-emergency dispatch number at 1-800-249-0911," Grand Haven DPS wrote in a news release
