A Baton Rouge-based company plans to build a major new modular fabrication yard at the Port of Iberia, creating nearly 600 local jobs.
A port official says companies like Cajun Industries are attracted to the port because of its easy access.
There are no bridges on the Intracoastal Waterway to the east or west of the Port of Iberia, so there are no height restrictions. In addition, the port channel has been deepened over the past several years.
Cajun Industries reportedly hopes to start fabricating at the new location by June.
