A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Connecticut until this evening. Snowfall began early Thursday (February 6) morning, transitioning to a wintry mix in some areas by the afternoon. The National Weather Service reported that snowfall started around 5 a.m., with up to 1.8 inches recorded in New Fairfield by 10:45 a.m. and up to 1.6 inches in the northwestern part of the state by 11 a.m.
The storm has created slippery road conditions, impacting the morning commute. State plows have been actively clearing major roads like Interstate 691 and Interstate 91, but drivers are still advised to reduce their speeds and allow for extra travel time due to the icy conditions.
According to Governor Lamont's office, additional snowfall is expected over the coming weekend, potentially bringing heavier accumulations. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and exercise caution while traveling.
