A forum on race to be hosted by the University of Akron is being canceled.
The Rethinking Race series has been a part of university planning and programming for 28 years but will not take place this year in response to President Trump's efforts against DEI initiatives.
In a statement, the university says that while they offer a variety of events for students and the community, the University of Akron must do so in the context of a state institution that is required to abide by law, regulations, and guidance at both the federal and state levels from which they receive funding. As a result of that guidance, the university has decided not to budget for Rethinking Race this year.
