Barnstable County Commissioners met yesterday to discuss the possible closure of the Pocasset Mental Health Center.
Commissioners heard from a panel of experts and were informed that the closure of Cape Cod's only state run psychiatric hospital would have long term impacts.
They say the closing proposed in Governor Healey's budget would force more people off the Cape for treatment, straining families, first responders and emergency departments.
Commissioners later voted to send a letter to the governor and state lawmakers, urging them to keep the facility open.
