Vernon , N.Y. - A former Treasurer of the Vernon Center Fire Department has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $300,000 from the department.
A joint investigation by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office and State Police found that 51 year old Jonnell Rose of Vernon stole the department's money over a six-year period.
Rose wrote checks for cash, deposited legitimate checks written to various vendors and checks intended for the department into his personal bank account.
Rose is charged with 2nd degree grand larceny
