Gerber Products Company recalled all boxes of its Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks on January 31 due to a "potential choking hazard for babies and young children."

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the product is advertised as "long lasting," "edible," and "easy to hold," but poses a safety risk for its intended age demographic.

Gerber's Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks were sold online nationwide and were distributed to retail stores across 45 states including Illinois.

Recalled product descriptions are as follows:

  • ERBER® SOOTHE N CHEW® TEETHING STICKS – STRAWBERRY APPLE, Net Wt. 3.2 Oz (90g), with UPC 0 15000 04618 7, all lot codes
  • GERBER® SOOTHE N CHEW® TEETHING STICKS – BANANA, Net Wt. 3.2 Oz (90g), with UPC 0 15000 04608 8, all lot codes
  • GERBER® SOOTHE N CHEW® TEETHING STICKS – BANANA, Net Wt. 1.59 Oz (45g), with UPC 0 15000 01015 7, all lot codes

One choking incident (involving a child being sent to the emergency room) has been reported as a result of the safety hazard placed on Gerber's Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks.

Officials are advising adults to avoid feeding the recalled product to babies and young children. Customers can return the product at the place they purchased it for a full refund.

Individuals with questions are encouraged to call 1-800-443-7237. For photos and additional information, check out the FDA's full recall page.
