Mother Of Teen Shot While PBSO Says Gun Was 'Mishandled' Disagrees

The mother of a 16-year old boy shot and killed by a friend over the weekend has an issue with the way authorities announced the incident.

The Sheriff's Office initially called it an accident that happened when a group of teens was mishandling a gun in the Lake Worth/Greenacres area on Saturday, but the victim's mom thinks differently.

“My baby is gone. He’s laying somewhere right now, cut open without me. I’m supposed to protect him, and I can’t. I couldn’t. I wasn’t there.”

The woman who wouldn't identify herself to CBS 12 News says detectives showed her surveillance video of the shooting and it is proof that there was no accident.

She believes the boy intended to kill her son. It happened while the victim was charging his phone in an outlet behind a home and other boys were horsing around with the gun. But that's when the woman says the video shows the shooting occur.

“If you say choice words and then pull the trigger, that’s not mishandling a weapon—that’s firing a weapon. That’s murder.”

One teen is charged with second degree murder and tampering with evidence. Meanwhile the Sheriff's Office says investigators are still reviewing evidence.
