America’s biggest sporting event is just days away, but the Super Bowl is so much more than a football game. It’s basically become an unofficial food holiday that brings millions of people together to watch the teams, the ads and the halftime show and of course, enjoy the food. While fans may be picking sides between the Chiefs and the Eagles, they’re much more united when it comes to the food.
- New research highlights the favorite game-day eats across the country, based on Google search data.
- The team at Coffeeness analyzed search volume data, looking at nearly 13-hundred different types of foods and another 300 desserts to find the preferences in each state.
So, what do Americans want to eat on Super Bowl Sunday?
- Buffalo Chicken Dip is the game-day MVP. It’s the most popular Super Bowl snack in the country, dominating in 29 states. People love the creamy, spicy dip that brings Americans’ love for buffalo wings into an easy-to-share and less messy form.
- Baked potatoes are the runner-up overall. They’re the most popular pick in five states - California, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Nevada - and while baked potatoes may not seem like an obvious game-day snack, people love them for their versatility. Baked potato bars with gourmet toppings are becoming a Super Bowl party trend.
- Beyond the top two foods, there are some regional favorites beloved in a few states.
- Fried green tomatoes are a southern staple that take the top spot in Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma.
- Funeral Potatoes, a cheesy, creamy hashbrown casserole, are popular out west and the number one Super Bowl snack in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.
- Poke bowls are the top choice in Florida and Hawaii, while Sonoran Hot Dogs - franks wrapped in bacon, topped with pinto beans, jalapeno sauce and mayo - are Arizona’s favorite.
- Crawfish Étouffée [[ey-too-FAY]], a rich seafood stew, is the number one Super Bowl dish in Louisiana.
