(Des Moines, IA) -- The proposed moratorium on new casino licenses that passed the Iowa House last week is stalling across the rotunda. A Senate version passed Local Government Committee last week, but the House version was received and assigned to the State Government Committee.
State Sen. Ken Rozenboom (R-Oskaloosa) chairs the latter.
"According to my conversations, this bill does not have enough support from Senate Republicans to advance all the way through the Senate process," Rosenboom says. "In the interest of moving this session forward to other issues of critical importance to Iowans, I have no plans to consider the legislation for the remainder of the session."
The announcement comes two days before the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is set to make a decision on a proposed project in Linn County.
