The day after Governor Greg Abbott's State of the State address, in which he once again called on the Texas Republican majority to do what they were elected to do, and that's pass school choice, a small group of Texas Democrats got together to criticize Governor Abbott and school choice.
The Texas Dems continue to speak this false narrative on school choice being a 'billionaire-backed' agenda, even though nationwide studies have shown that states with school choice are thriving, and it's become a win-win for private and public schools.
But the highlight was Houston Democrat Gene Wu, who blasted the plan saying quote, "How do we tell people we're going to take your money and give it to rich people, so they can send their kids to private school, so they don't have to have their kids with your kids."
The one thing that Wu forgot to mention is that he sends his kids to private school (which he admitted on X). You can't script this stuff!
The hypocritical comments went viral on social media.
