He was supposed to be a temporary fix, but now the West Palm Beach Mayor says Interim Police Chief Tony Araujo will be getting the job permanently.
Araujo was working as a colonel with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in October when Mayor Keith James agreed with the agency to bring him on after the firing of former Chief Frank Adderley.
James says the plan was to search for a full-time chief, but...
"His performance, vision and ability to drive results have made it clear that he is indeed the right choice for the department."
The mayor says the city will have a listening tour over the next few months to introduce Araujo to the community.
Meanwhile, the City Commission still has to vote on the move and that's expected to happen tonight. If approved, Araujo will be officially named permanent Police Chief on March 3.
