The Alzheimer’s Association visited James Madison University on Sunday to recognize Sigma Kappa for its outstanding fundraising efforts. The sorority raised over $52,000 for the Harrisonburg Walk to End Alzheimer’s, surpassing the fundraising totals of both Virginia Tech and UVA’s Sigma Kappa chapters. Lindsey Parnell, Development Manager at the Alzheimer’s Association, praised the sorority's dedication, noting many participants were motivated by a desire to help, even without personal connections to the cause.
During the award ceremony, Sigma Kappa received a new fundraising trophy, which is awarded to the sorority that raises the most money in Virginia. Sigma Kappa President Molly Westerman shared her pride in her sisters' hard work, noting her personal connection to the cause, as her grandmother had dementia. Westerman hopes to raise $60,000 next year, building on this year's success.
