She advises that before you start sipping on those cocktails, munching on some cheese – which is high in protein, fat, and complex carbs – can coat your stomach, slowing down alcohol absorption and helping your body metabolize it better. She also notes that cheese is high in B vitamins and calcium, which can be depleted from your body when you're drinking. Plus, cheese can even protect your liver from damage. And while cheese may lessen your hangover, the doctor also advises that “no alcohol is better than any alcohol.”
