A 37-year-old man tragically fell to his death while hiking the Canyon Overlook Trail at Zion National Park in Utah. The incident occurred on Sunday (February 2), and authorities have not yet released the hiker's identity. The Washington County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible fall at 7:06 a.m., and first responders from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene by 7:40 a.m., where they found the man deceased and beyond help.
The National Park Service confirmed that the Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team assisted in the recovery of the hiker's remains, which were then transferred to the Washington County Medical Examiner for further examination. The Canyon Overlook Trail, a popular mile-long trail known for its scenic views and steep drop-offs, was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
This marks the second fatal fall at Zion National Park in recent months. In October, a 40-year-old man fell approximately 200 feet while canyoneering. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the latest incident to determine the exact cause of the fall.
The sheriff's office expressed gratitude to all involved in the recovery efforts, including Zion Park Rangers and the Zion Technical Search and Rescue Team. They are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the hiker's death.
