Who is Bill Gates?
A name synonymous with Microsoft and Windows.
A man, known for almost two decades as the richest man in the world with a net worth surpassing $105 billion.
And a dream that he never gave up on, despite his ideas being ridiculed by many.
Gates recently spoke with Jay Shetty as part of iHeartRadio's On Purpose with Jay Shetty, diving into the details of his life in a way he never has before. Per the podcast episode summary:
"Bill shares candid stories about his upbringing, his parents’ profound influence, and the lessons he learned from their high expectations and encouragement. He also talks about his career-long passion for innovation and his views on climate change, the promise of AI, and the Gates Foundation’s life-saving work, such as developing vaccines and tackling malnutrition. His insights are not just about the cutting edge of technology but also about humanity’s moral responsibility to harness it for good."
The episode "focuses on grief, as Gates discusses the loss of close friends like Paul Allen and Kent Evans, and how their influence continues to guide his mission." To kick off his chat with Shetty, the tech mogul described what it was like to be one of the first people in the world to know how important computers would be one day.
"The idea that everyone would use a computer was somewhat ridiculed, so it was kind of fun to be apart of the movement saying 'no, no, this is really going to be mainstream...we're going to make them cheaper and better.' And you know, that fact that I was lucky enough through my experience to be in on that secret and get to lead the way in a scene where software would be the missing piece... I couldn't have been more lucky. And now that's given me enough resources to give back."
