A man described as an elderly male with a gun has been arrested in a shooting at Pasadena Memorial High School on Saturday evening.
Authorities say the school was the scene of a Texas Color Guard Circuit percussion band competition about 6 pm when, for some reason, the gunman shot a man said to be in his early 20s.
It's believed the shooting was random and was not connected to the competition on the campus.
A Pasadena ISD spokesman said Saturday night that the shooting took place at the back entrance to the high school, not adjacent to the nearby contest.
The shooter suspiciously stood behind a pillar for a couple of minutes, seemed to mumble a few words, then fired a shot, hitting the victim.
Moments later the gunman was tackled by an off-duty police officer and another man.
Security guards took control of the scene a few moments later, the spokesman said.
There's been no word on the victim's condition.
In the competition there were contestants from other Houston-area high schools, including Katy ISD and Cypress Fairbanks ISD, but all of the students were safely sent home.
Now police are trying to find out what led to the shooting.
