Brian interviews OHC - Dr. Ajit Gubbi - Cervical Cancer

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month:

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. It is most frequently diagnosed in women aged 35-44 and it is rare among women under the age of 20. Cervical cancer incidence rates are tied to cervical cancer screenings and the HPV vaccine. Women over the age of 65 account for 20% of cervical cancer cases, however women who had regular screenings prior to 65 are rarely impacted.

Regular screenings have dropped the incidence rate of cervical cancer by more than half from the 1970s to the 2000s. The HPV vaccine has also been a game changer for incidence rates, where a 11% drop in cases for women 20-24 is most likely tied to the increase in young men and women receiving the vaccine.

OHC’s Dr. Ajit Gubbi, a gynecologic oncologist is here to explain the risk factors, signs and symptoms, and what you can do to prevent this awful disease and spread awareness to your loved ones. Dr. Gubbi specializes in radical debulking surgery, minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery, and comprehensive educational, emotional, and spiritual support for patients. He is the principal investigator for OHC gynecologic cancer clinical trials and he is also a board member for Cancer Family Care.
