An American Airlines employee tragically died on Monday (January 27) after being struck by a ramp vehicle at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. while the worker was on the tarmac, also known as the apron, which is used for loading and unloading passengers or cargo, refueling, parking, or maintenance, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Emergency and medical crews arrived promptly, but the employee was pronounced dead at the scene. The airport confirmed that only one vehicle was involved in the incident.

Both American Airlines and the airport expressed their condolences to the employee's family, friends, and colleagues. "We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte International Airport," an American Airlines spokesperson said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members." The airport is working closely with airline partners and first responders to investigate the situation, and chaplains are available onsite to provide support.
