EL PASO, TX — The Tejano music world is mourning the unexpected passing of Jacob Pineda, the talented drummer of the popular family band Xplosion. Jacob passed away suddenly on January 11, 2025, at the age of 27, leaving behind a legacy of musical passion, laughter, and love. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news through social media, sharing details of his passing and the upcoming memorial services.
With heavy hearts, the Pineda family shared the following message: “With humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of our second child, JACOB ANDREW PINEDA, on January 11th, 2025, at 5:20 PM. He passed away peacefully in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona.”
Jacob was born on August 22, 1997, in El Paso, Texas, to parents Jesus Pineda Sr. and Erica Yvette Pineda. He was a graduate of Del Valle High School (El Paso, TX), class of 2015, and became an integral part of his family’s band, Xplosion and Jesse Colt Band, where his passion for music shone brightly.
Jacob’s family spoke fondly of his character and hobbies in his obituary, describing him as a person with a heart full of love for his family. “Jacob shared a passion for music as he was the drummer for his family band (Xplosion & Jesse Colt Band). Between performances, Jacob had a love for fishing with his dad, playing video games with his fiancé and brothers, and spending Sundays with his whole family,” the obituary reads.
In a heartfelt post, Jacob’s mother, Erica Pineda, shared, “As you all might know by now, our son, Jacob Pineda, has passed away and gone to heaven. He is now our guardian angel and is watching us miss him so much. We have so many of you asking what happened to Jacob… but we have no clue. His passing came as a shock to all of us and is unknown at this time. We do appreciate everyone’s concerns and wanting to share in this process with us but right now we have no clue. Maybe we’ll share when we do find out and our family is ready to do so.”
Jacob’s personal life was filled with love and joy. He was engaged to Ariel Flores, with whom he shared a beautiful daughter, Juliette Levette. His family described him as a light in their lives, saying, “Jacob definitely was known for putting a smile on anyone’s face. His love for laughter and good times made his presence well appreciated and valued by everyone.”
