There is some ice that drivers are still dealing with across Houston Thursday morning, after another night of subfreezing temperatures. You can keep track of Transtar conditions HERE.

TxDOT officials are happy with how Houston's major roads turned out after snow fell Tuesday and ice covered the roads in some spots Wednesday.

Public Information Officer for TxDOT Houston Leo Flores said the early preparations made by the TxDOT crews was crucial.

"We started making preparations logistically as early as last week as soon as we got the forecast," Flores said. "We started pouring the pre-treatment onto the priority roads this past weekend and did that around the clock."

It appears the pre-treatment did its job. Roads have been retreated too and snowplows were active on the freeways to clear off the snow and ice Wednesday.

"Our crews have been working diligently at this and will continue to do so," Flores added.

Most people did stay home as there were not very many people on the roads Monday night and all day Tuesday. There were only a handful of accidents reported during that stretch too, according to Houston mayor John Whitmire, who said the city sets a good example on how to handle a major weather event.

"We are the model for the rest of nation, demonstrating what we just successfully accomplished," Whitmire said during a Wednesday press conference.

Multiple road crews came in from other major Texas cities including Dallas, El Paso and Waco. Flores said these out-of-town crews brought snowplows with them to help Houston take care of the snow and ice in an efficient manner and get roads back to normal following an unprecedented weather event in southeast Texas.

"What we've always known is preparation is key, it's paramount, and we don't get them often, this type of weather event," he said. It allowed us to handle the magnitude of snow and ice that we got here in the Houston area."

Only a few schools and area school districts are closed school for Thursday after being shut down for multiple days.

Mayor Whitmire said city operations and services have returned to normal. Both of Houston's airports are back to operating as usual too.
