Chain restaurants and popular eateries are great, but there's something about sitting down at a locally famous hole-in-the-wall or a longtime favorite mom and pop shop that has been serving up tried and true delicious meals for years that just hits home.
Using reviews, awards and accolades as well as first-hand experience, LoveFood compiled a list of the "best mom and pop restaurant" in every state, eateries that have been a mainstay of the community for decades or establishments that serve up family recipes that have been perfected over several generations.
According to the site, two restaurants were named the best mom and pop restaurants in all of Colorado: Coyote's Coffee Den in Penrose and Cozy Cottage in Denver. Here's what the site had to say about these restaurants offering "incredible comfort food":
"As warm and friendly as they come, Coyote's Coffee Den is owned by Pete and Rhea Mugasis, and locals have fallen in love with the joint's charm and authenticity. Inside you'll find a mish-mash of cozy wooden furnishings, but it's the large outdoor patio and the views across the Sangre de Cristo mountains that fans really adore. Expect plenty of hearty options, including giant turkey melt sandwiches, taco salads, and house-made soup with corn muffins and crackers."
"As the name suggests, Cozy Cottage is a homey, down-to-earth joint that locals say is well worth visiting. This Denver hotspot, owned by Rosa Arguello and her family, is famed for its warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and expansive patio area, as well as its American and Mexican-style fare. Expect everything from country-fried steaks with house-made gravy to pillowy pancakes and slow-roasted carnitas."
