Trending News: Inauguration, Crypto Ball & TikTok’s Surprise Return

Yesterday, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States at the Capitol Rotunda, completing a remarkable comeback following felony convictions. In his inaugural address, Trump declared the start of “the golden age of America” and listed trade, immigration, and national security among his top priorities, while criticizing former President Joe Biden. He also signed a flurry of executive orders on day one, setting a swift tone for his new administration.

Meanwhile, social media lit up with backlash directed at Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Rick Ross, and Soulja Boy for performing at an event called the Crypto Ball, which honored Trump as “America's first crypto president.” Many pointed out that Snoop Dogg once labeled anyone willing to perform for Trump an “Uncle Tom.” Soulja Boy responded to the criticism by saying his decision was strictly about the money and claimed Trump wasn’t actually there, so it wasn’t truly a Trump event. Nelly, in contrast, told Willie D’s podcast it wasn’t about the money for him—he chose to respect the office of the presidency, regardless of who holds it.

In a surprise move, President Trump has withdrawn his support for the TikTok ban he had once championed. He previously called the popular app a national security threat, yet TikTok is officially back in the U.S. In a statement to users, TikTok thanked Trump for his efforts, writing, “Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!”
