The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Berks County and much of eastern Pennsylvania, including Lehigh, Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties, effective Sunday (January 19). Heavy snow is expected, with potential accumulations of 5 to 8 inches.

The storm is predicted to create hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Strong winds combined with the weight of the snow may lead to downed power lines, causing sporadic power outages. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for difficult travel conditions. Local officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel and ensuring emergency supplies are available.

According to the Berks Weekly, the watch is in effect from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sunday. The National Weather Service advises residents to plan for slippery roads and potential power outages.

Travelers should check road conditions before heading out and consider postponing trips if possible. The PennLive report emphasizes the importance of winter driving safety, including maintaining a full gas tank and carrying essential supplies like a blanket and flashlight.
