The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Lehigh Valley, including Berks, Lehigh, Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties, starting Sunday morning (January 19). Heavy snow is expected, with potential accumulations ranging from 5 to 8 inches. The storm watch is in effect from 7:00 AM Sunday until 10:00 PM Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The combination of strong winds and the weight of snow on tree limbs may result in downed power lines, leading to sporadic power outages.
Travel is expected to be difficult, and residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for the storm. Local officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure they have emergency supplies on hand.
Forecasters are also monitoring the development of an Arctic cold front that could bring extreme cold to the region following the storm. Meteorologists predict high temperatures in the low 20s or teens and lows in the single digits or below zero from Monday night through Wednesday night.
