Cutting Crew wasn't really one hit and done

Cutting Crew is often labeled as a one-hit wonder, thanks to their 1987 chart-topping hit "(I Just) Died in Your Arms." However, this label doesn't really capture the full story. That same year, the band also scored a second Top 10 hit with "I've Been in Love Before" and another Top 40 hit with "One for the Mockingbird." Clearly, their success extended beyond just one song.

Frontman Nick Van Eede has had mixed feelings about the one-hit wonder label over the years. In an interview with Classic Rock, he admitted that it used to bother him. "I used to get a bit tetchy about that back in the day," he said. But with time, he's come to embrace it. He humorously noted, "That song has been my passport, my bank manager, and my lover down through the years."

Van Eede also highlighted the enduring popularity of "(I Just) Died in Your Arms," mentioning its impressive seven million broadcasts in America. He even compared its success to iconic songs like "Help!" by The Beatles, calling it "ridiculous." Despite the initial frustration, Van Eede now really appreciates the lasting impact of their biggest hit and the doors it has opened for him and the band.
