Two candidates are now in the running for a seat in West Palm Beach that won't be open for more than two years.
Palm Beach County District 2 Commissioner Gregg Weiss says he wants to be the next Mayor of West Palm Beach when Mayor Keith James' second and final term is up in March of 2027.
In a news release, the tech executive said he has spent his career finding innovative solutions to complex problems and he's ready to put that experience to work for the community. Weiss says he would prioritize using technology to improve traffic flow, protect the drinking water and enhance how residents interact with their government. The commissioner was re-elected to his second term in 2022.
His announcement came on back of current West Palm Beach City Commissioner Christina Lambert saying that she is running for mayor. Lambert has James' endorsement. He calls her the "best choice" and a "leader" who has put in time to understand the city's issues, process and vision for the future.
