The Kent County Health Department is encouraging residents to be aware of the threat of bird flu and to consider measure to prevent infections.
KCHD Director Adam London says the current risk to humans is low but the ongoing outbreak is the worst in U.S. history.
The Department of Natural Resources says individuals should avoid contact with wild birds and their droppings and wash your hands if you do come into contact to prevent possible transmission.
KCHD says it is important to monitor your pets as well.
The department also warns residents to make sure all poultry is cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees to kill any potential viruses.
