Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday (January 20), her spokesperson confirmed to ABC News. Pelosi, who recently returned to Washington after hip replacement surgery, has not provided a reason for her absence. Pelosi attended Trump's first inauguration in 2017 but has had a contentious relationship with him since, which has been marked by public disagreements and criticism.

Pelosi's decision comes amid a history of friction with Trump, including her tearing up his State of the Union speech in 2020 and her criticism following the January 6 Capitol attack. Trump has also criticized Pelosi, calling her an "enemy" at campaign rallies.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is also skipping the inauguration.

While Pelosi will not attend, former President Barack Obama and other political figures will be present.

Pelosi, who has attended 11 inaugurations, will continue her duties in Congress after winning re-election for her 20th term.
