The end is in sight for the consent decree that's had the New Orleans Police Department under federal oversight for more than ten years.
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that the NOPD is ready to enter the sustainment period, which is a two-year probationary period of reduced federal oversight.
NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick and her officers applauded the ruling. But Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says she plans to appeal because it's not good enough.
Murrill says federal supervision should have ended two years ago.
