While Texas Democrats were overjoyed after electing House Speaker (R) Dustin Burrows, Texas GOP Chair Abraham George was already getting to work, vowing that true Republicans will respond.
"The next primary, I can promise you it's going to be bad for them" George said in an interview with news radio KTRH, "This is not going to be forgotten, that's for sure."
Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton immediately called out Burrows, and said that he needs to pass the conservative priorities. But considering that Burrows won with 49 votes from Democrats, and 36 from Republicans, the chances of that are now slim.
"I don't think he can be a conservative, mainly because he was elected by Democrats" George said, "More Democrats supported him, than the Republicans."
The good news is, as bad as it looks right now, George reminded us the House Speaker can be vacated at any time -if- they have enough votes.
"If more Republicans join the GOP caucus and get to 76, we can still replace Dustin Burrows" George told KTRH, "It's not an impossible task. We are at 55, we just need 21 more people."
In the meantime, he says the Republicans will gather and re-group in a couple of weeks.
