Conspiracy Nuts Want to Know Why This Bottled Water Didn't Freeze
New day, new conspiracy nonsense: TikTok is obsessed with a video of some bottled water a guy left outside in the freezing cold, because none of the water turned to ice. He said the temp never rose above 28 degrees for days.
People are claiming it's because they're putting ANTIFREEZE chemicals in the water supply or something. But as usual, there's a more innocent explanation.
Purified water can be so pure, it won't freeze until some sort of imperfection is introduced. The University of Illinois physics department has a whole Q & A page about it.
You've maybe even seen it happen after putting a bottle of water in the freezer. It's liquid until you open it, or touch it the right way, then the whole thing freezes.
