Overdose deaths are on the decline in Rhode Island.
The state's Overdose Prevention and Intervention Task Force says in 2024 the state recorded the lowest number of fatal overdoses since 2020 with a notable drop in deaths that involved fentanyl.
Officials say there is no clear reason for the decline, but outreach work, the distribution of naloxone, fentanyl test strips and working to connect people to treatment were likely factors.
