Man wanted for triple homicide in police custody

NEW LISBON, Wis. (WKOW) — The Juneau County Sheriff's Office and New Lisbon Police Department confirmed missing and wanted man Virgil Thew was found Thursday and is in police custody.

A news release from the New Lisbon Police Department said someone called the Juneau County Communications Center shortly before noon on Thursday to report a suspicious person in the city of Elroy. A Juneau County deputy went to the area, found the person in question and identified him as Thew.

Thew was taken into custody at 12:18 p.m.

At the time, the Juneau County's Sheriff's Office alerted the public of an increased law enforcement presence in Elroy connected to Thew's arrest.

"The public is not in danger at this time," a Facebook post from the Juneau County Sheriff's Office stated.

Thew is charged in the December deaths of three people including his girlfriend, 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba, and two girls in his care.

At the time of publication, online records did not list when Thew would appear in court for the first time.
