(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Violent crime is at historic lows in Cedar Rapids.
That's the highlight of an annual report released by the CRPD.
But, the report also shows a sharp increase in shoplifting and a rise in weapons-related offenses.
Police Chief David Dostal says violent crime incidents are down a 16%, with just one homicide, a dramatic decline from an average of nine homicides over the previous five years.
Shots-fired incidents fell 40%.
Dostal says increased reporting accounts for a nearly 24% increase in the number of shoplifting incidents.
