Ohio Family Turns Party Into Fundraiser To Pay Off School Lunch Debts

A family in Bowling Green, Ohio, has turned their annual holiday party into an opportunity to support local students in need. Last week, Bowling Green Middle School sixth-grader Owen Snyder and his dad, Nick, presented a check for more than $1,000 to Bowling Green City Schools to pay off lunch debts across the district.

Nick explains that the funds were raised with the help of friends, family, and the local community. “By no means is it all us,” Nick says, crediting the generosity of all those who contributed to the cause. This effort is part of the family’s long-standing tradition of rallying community support, with multiple donations and volunteer events over the past seven years.

Tabitha Hiler-Young, the district’s food service director, expressed gratitude for the donation, stressing the importance of making sure students have lunches to fuel their academic success. The spirit of giving reflects the culture of Bowling Green, where both Nick Snyder and Hiler-Young were born and raised. “It is unbelievable how kind and generous everyone is,” Hiler-Young says, adding that this collective effort is a testament to the city's supportive environment.
