ACTON (CNS) - A wildfire that started in Acton has prompted evacuation orders and warnings, the closure of Angeles National Forest, and has grown to 348 acres Thursday, adding to the string of fires burning in Los Angeles County and causing damage and destruction to homes and businesses.
The Lidia Fire started at around 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 5700 block of Soledad Canyon. As of 11:25 p.m. Wednesday it was 40% contained.
Soledad Canyon Road between Agua Dulce Canyon and Crown Valley Road are closed. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for those in the area of the fire.
There were no reports of injuries or damage.
Animal evacuation center have been set up in Castaic, Palmdale and Lancaster. They are at Castaic Animal Care Center, 31044 Charlie Canyon; Lancaster Animal Care Center, 5210 W. Ave., Lancaster; and Palmdale Animal Care Center, 38550 Sierra Hwy., Palmdale.
Cal Fire is reporting forward progress has stopped and firefighters are working to gain additional containment.
The Angeles National Forest is temporarily closed until Wednesday at midnight.
Metrolink suspended service on its Antelope Valley line between Vista Canyon and Lancaster due to the fire.
The cause of the fire was unknown, but it broke out amid continuing Santa Ana wind conditions that were fueling major brush fires across the region.
