Jacobs leads 'Dogs to victory in career-high game against Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif.- Mia Jacobs lands 1,000 career points, along with a new career-high 32 points and her 10th double-double of the season.

Fresno State earns their first conference win of the season against San Jose State at the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Wednesday night, 77-64.

Bulldogs' were led by four players finishing in double-digits, the most this season, with Jacobs, Kylee Fox, Mariah Elohim and Saga Ukkonen.

While the Spartans saw five players in double figures.

How it happened

Jacobs got the ball moving with an and-1 to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 start in the first minute. Spartans slipped in for the lead with a layup and 2-for-2 at the line. Jacobs snaps a two minute scoreless drought with a second chance jumper. Fresno State took three trips to the line in less than two minutes Jacobs, Ukkonen and Fox, earning the Bulldogs five points. Bulldogs closed on a 13-3 run to hold a seven-point lead over the Spartans in the final four minutes, 20-13.

Steady ball movement for the Bulldogs to open the second m. Fox's steal led to a coast-to-coast basket by Ukkonen. Elohim connected for another three-pointer. An eight-point run for Jacobs landed her 1,000 career points. Spartans' made one more basket in the final second to stand within ten of the Bulldogs at the end of the first half, 37-27.

Fresno State held a double-figure courtesy of Jacobs and Fox combined for 26 of the team's 37 points. Bulldogs forced the Spartans to 15 turnovers and saw 20 points off those.

San Jose chipped Fresno State's lead down to eight at the start with a 6-0 run that continued from the first half. Fresno State was held from the basket for four minutes with two more trips to the charity line. Another scoring drought was suffered on both ends of the court for over two minutes. A 5-4 run in favor of San Jose saw the lead drop to seven with a minute to go. Jacobs grabbed an and-1 to push it back up to nine.

On her sixth double-figure game of the season, Fox dropped in a three-pointer to start the final ten. Spartans' got within four of the Bulldogs on a 7-3 run. Back-to-back threes by Jacobs and Elohim push Fresno State's lead back to ten with 5:10 to go, 62-52. In sync, the Bulldogs were 8-of-8 from the field in the final five minutes. A rough and tumble final two minutes. 'Dogs played tougher for a 7-5 run to hold off the Spartans by 13.

Up next: Fresno State returns home to host Boise State on Saturday at the Save Mart Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT. The game will be the first of a doubleheader with the men's team which will face Nevada at 4 p.m.
