Burgers are quite the versatile meal which foodies can load up with all of their favorite toppings. One of the most popular additions to a burger is cheese, with flavorful slices adding just the right amount of gooey, melted goodness to transform what could be a fine but plain burger into something extraordinary.
Using reviews, awards, accolades and first-hand experience, LoveFood compiled a list of the "best cheeseburger" in every state, the hole-in-the-wall eateries and regional favorites that are also known as "America's finest burger joints."
According to the site, two restaurants in North Carolina have some of the top burgers in the state, with the Barcelona Classic at Barcelona Burger in Mooresville and the Noah Burger at Nick's Old Fashioned Hamburger House in Lexington earning praise.

"The patties at Nick's Old Fashioned Hamburger House are a very precise 5.3oz and made from a secret blend of fresh beef. Customers can opt for a plain cheeseburger — with up to five patties — or go for something special, such as the much-loved Noah Burger. This feast comes complete with local pimento cheese, bacon, jalapeños, raw onion, mayo, and barbecue sauce. If you want to make it extra special, have it on Texas toast for a slight upcharge."
