Reba McEntire will produce and star in an adaptation of a bestselling novel.

The country megastar is set to appear in an adaptation of The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion, a book by Fannie Flagg originally published in 2013. Callie Khouri, a TV screenwriter known for Nashville, Thelma & Louise and other projects, will direct the film based on the New York Times bestseller. It will come to life via independent faith-based studio Wonder Project, per a Deadline report on Tuesday (January 7). McEntire said in a statement: “I’ve always been a fan of Fannie Flagg and her writing, and it’s been an honor to call her my friend for the past decade. I cannot wait to work with this incredible team to bring another one of her special stories to life on the big screen.”

McEntire’s most recent acting credit is her role in Happy’s Place, a new NBC comedy that premiered in October. the sitcom reunites McEntire with fellow Reba star Melissa Peterman, plus her real-life boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, and Belissa Escobedo, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and others. The show follows McEntire’s character, Bobbie, who “inherits a restaurant from her late father, then learns she must share ownership with a newly discovered half-sister, creating awkward tension between the two.” Happy’s Place recently included actor Steve Howey as a guest star, reuniting McEntire and Peterman with another cast member from the beloved early 2000s show. Howey played McEntire’s son-in-law on Reba, which premiered in 2001 and ended in 2007. The series remains one of McEntire’s most well-known and beloved acting roles.
